Department of Biochemistry was started in 1988 under the able guidance of Dr. Anantha Padma Rao. Presently Dr. S.M.Raju leads the team, whose research papers around 10 in number, were published both in National & International journals.
The Department apart from teaching the students of various courses, is well versed in usage of modern techniques like Chromatography, Electrophoresis and Spectrophotometer. A separate department in the OPD block of SSMC Hospital is run to help the consultants in providing quick and best care to the patients.
Dr. N.G. Divakar has published a Biochemical approach for the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of hyperpiesia - a metabolic crisis in oenological emergencies.
